JCB and Bank Mandiri Sign for a New Partnership

Partnership include JCB Card acceptance and issuing JCB Card |
May 11, 2015 , Tokyo and Jakarta : PT. Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (“Mandiri”), one of the largest state banks in Indonesia, and PT JCB International Indonesia, subsidiary of JCB International Co., Ltd., the international operations arm of JCB Co., Ltd. (hereinafter collectively “JCB”), and are very pleased to announce a new partnership for payment card business. This partnership starts from the acceptance of JCB cards at Mandiri's ATMs and EDC, and payment card issuing with JCB brand is also in scope.
Mandiri is the leading bank card issuers in Indonesia, which has more than 12.5 million debit cards and more than 3 million credit cards issued. Mandiri is also one of the owners of the largest network and spread throughout Indonesia, which consists of 2,312 branches, 15 ,444 ATMs and 280,000 EDC. It is also equipped with other services such as 24 Hours Mandiri Call 14000, Mobile Banking and Internet Banking.
The first phase of the partnership, enabling JCB cards, whose number exceeded 88 million, to be accepted at all acceptance locations. It is expected to launch by the end of this year, followed by phase 2, JCB card issuing, which is now being discussed and targeted for 2016.
Director of Consumer Banking of Mandiri, Hery Gunardi said, “Mandiri's collaboration with JCBI is a new breakthrough to expand the service in the retail sector. JCBI itself is widely known as a provider of international payment services, so that this cooperation brings satisfaction to customers of Mandiri. This cooperation is expected to increase the volume of credit card transactions at our merchants.” ”We believe that this cooperation will be able to meet the people's need for convenient, fast, and reliable payment. Additionally, this collaboration has a potential to be reciprocal, whereby payment cards issued by banks in Indonesia will be able to transact on the network belonging to JCBI,” he continued.
Deputy President of JCBI, Kimihisa Imada said, ”We are pleased that Mandiri, the largest bank in Indonesia, has become our partner. This partnership will considerably improve convenience of JCB card usage across Indonesia by adding more than 290,000 acceptance locations. Mandiri's broad nationwide network can fulfill the need of local JCB cardmembers who reside in Indonesia as well as those who travel from outside Indonesia. I am looking forward to extending this partnership to issuing JCB card, whose strength is the quality of service that JCB has provided to its customers in Japan for over 50 years. I am sure that the new card product with both reputable brand names will bring new value to the market.”
