Tokyo/Cologne, 16th August 2012 - JCB International Co., Ltd. (JCBI), the international operations subsidiary of JCB, the only global payment brand based in Japan and Bank-Verlag GmbH (Bank-Verlag), a subsidiary of Bundesverband deutscher Banken e.V. (BdB) in Germany, today announced the execution of a Master Issuing License Agreement.
Bank-Verlag provides card processing services for German private and commercial banks under Bundesverband deutscher Banken e.V. (BdB) and key managing services to all German banks and European project partners. With the Master Issuing License Agreement in place, Bank-Verlag is now able to offer the banks the ability to issue girocard - JCB co-badged cards.
Since 1981, JCB and JCBI have been expanding JCB card acceptance locations across Europe to increase convenience for JCB cardmembers. Currently, JCB is accepted at 22 million merchants worldwide including a few million merchants in Europe developed through alliances with European partner banks and financial institutions for merchant acquiring.
“This is a firm step toward launch of the girocard - JCB co-badged card in the German market, following our frame agreement with the German Banking Industry Committee executed in October last year", said Mr. Kimihisa Imada, Deputy President of JCBI. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to provide value to German consumers in the form of another choice of payment and to offer JCB business partners much larger business opportunities with volumes generated by German cardmembers."
“Signing the Master License Agreement with JCB has paved the way for an easy and efficient issuing of girocard-JCB co-badged cards in Germany", added Mr. Henrik Langen, Managing Director of Bank-Verlag GmbH. “We are pleased that with this agreement we will be able to offer private and commercial banks in Germany the entire infrastructure to issue JCB card products."
As a next step, JCB and Bank-Verlag are planning a pilot project for girocard-JCB co-badged card issuing in early 2013. JCB is looking forward to building new alliances with leading banks and business partners to further expand both the JCB cardmember base and card acceptance network across Europe, providing better convenience and services to JCB customers around the world. |
